CoMath Update for February 4, 2022

This is also a great time to follow the Twitter account Mathematically Gifted and Black, which highlights Black mathematicians and math educators currently working and excelling in their fields.

ESSER K-8 Mathematics Curricula Grant Program

We don't quite have a full description of this program online just yet, but I wanted CoMath readers to have a heads up that a grant program for purchasing high-quality instructional materials for K-8 mathematics will be announced very soon. There will be an application information webinar on Monday, February 14 at 4:00 pm. I'll send more information when it's posted.

February CoMath Conversation: Acceleration, Pathways, and Tracking in High School Math

Last month, we focused on middle school, so now let's move this conversation to high school. What are the latest debates and best practices for acceleration in high school mathematics? Is it all a big race to calculus, or is statistics now an equally worthy goal? What pathways are proposed in other states? For our February CoMath Conversation, we'll talk about what we're doing in our schools and learn from each other some of the promises and pitfalls of our math pathway designs. Register today to join the conversation on Thursday, February 17 from 3:30 to 4:45 pm.

Colorado Math Leaders

The next CML meeting is Tuesday, February 8 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. We're planning to discuss Chapter 4 of our book study, do a little math, then spend time in four breakout discussions including (1) grad guideline plans, (2) professional learning plans, (3) instructional resource adoption, and (4) increasing access to Tier 1 with Tier 2 and 3 interventions. We'll start gathering on Zoom at noon for lunch and casual chat before getting to the agenda at 12:30.

CCTM Board of Directors Nominations

The Colorado Council of Teachers of Mathematics is accepting nominations for the following positions:

• President-Elect
• Vice President
• Secretary
• Treasurer
• Region 3 Representative
• Region 6 Representative

All Colorado math educators are invited to nominate excellent math educators to serve on the CCTM Board. To serve as the Region 3 or Region 6 representative, nominees must either live or work in the region they represent. (See region map.) You may nominate more than one person and are invited to share the nomination link with colleagues. Nominations will remain open until March 1, 2022.
